Broncos off to a flying start
A Ben Barba inspired NRMA Insurance Broncos won their opening game of the season against 2012 Grand Finalist, the Bulldogs. The win was built on the back of a brilliant defensive effort led by Broncos rake Andrew McCullough.
After bolting out of the gates to lead 14-6 at the break, the Bulldogs came out full of energy in the second half and soon were back in the game in the 53rd minute when Bulldogs giant Tony Williams barged his way over to score.
Hodkinson converted to make the score 14-12 to Brisbane.
With 10mins to go the Broncos were out on their feet but defended brilliantly and repelled the Bulldogs attack by holding up Michael Ennis over the line twice.
Winger, Lachlan Maranta having one of his best games for the club scored a controversial try in the 75th minute to secure a first round win away from home for the Broncos.
A special mention must be made to the new recruits Daniel Vidot, Ben Barba, Martin Kennedy and Todd Lowrie who all made significant contributions on the night.
The Broncos play the Cowboys in the QLD Derby this Friday night at Suncorp Stadium.
