5 Foods That Are Great For Your Skin
Did you know you can transform your skin just by eating the right foods? Like the saying goes ‘you are what you eat’, in this blog we look at 5 foods that are great for your skin that you can find right here in Queensland.
1. Fatty fish like Salmon
Wild salmon is a rich source of omega-3s and anti-inflammatories, and it soothes the skin. We need good levels of omega-3s to keep the skin soft and supple. This is because omega-3s make up part of the cell membrane, they also decrease redness in general. Ok, we don’t exactly fish for them up here, but we do have partners in Tasmania who provide us wild caught Salmon.
2. Olive oil
The vitamin E present in olive oil supports the repair of dry and damaged skin when ingested or applied topically. Sommariva Olives, near Charleville, took out the southern hemisphere bronze medal at the annual Los Angeles Extra Virgin Olive Oil Awards this year (2018), in a field of more than 650 entries, making it among others that came from Spain and Italy.
3. Carrots
Carrots are high in beta-carotene, which turns into vitamin A. Vitamin A is the skin’s “superfood”, as it stimulates collagen and elastin production, as well as normalising blood flow to reduce the appearance of redness and increase the speed at which wounds heal. But don’t go too crazy with carrots: a couple a day are enough to benefit your complexion. Eating too many can have an adverse effect on your skin. Head inland to Kalfresh for locally grown carrots.
4. Strawberries
Who doesn’t love picking strawberries? They’re locally grown in our very own Strawberry Fields in Palmview, Sunshine Coast. Vitamin C is plentiful in strawberries and it’s vital for the production and formation of collagen (skin’s support structure). A strong support layer underneath helps smooth what’s on top and prevent wrinkles.
5. Dark Chocolate
Who says chocolate can’t be good for you? According to studies, the flavonols (a potent type of antioxidant) in cocoa may ward off wrinkles, improve skin elasticity, and even protect skin from UV damage. Head to Far North Queensland and you’ll be able to get beautiful, homegrown cocoa at Daintree Estates.
