What To Do and Eat at this Years’ Ekka – 2019
It’s nearly that time of year again. It’s not all colds and long lines to rides at the Ekka – there’s a bunch of delicious fun to be had. Make this year’s Ekka your best one yet with our foodie-friendly guide.
The Royal Queensland Show (Ekka – originally the Brisbane Exhibition) is Queensland’s largest and most loved annual event, up to 400,000 people come to this event every year.
It’s run by the RNA (The Royal National Agricultural & Industrial Association of Queensland) going for 10 days (August 9-18, 2019) and held at the Brisbane Showgrounds. It showcases the best that Queensland has to offer in terms of agriculture -from competitions featuring giant vegetables to beef cattle on display, and while, yes, there is a ton of carnival rides and showbags, there’s also award-winning food & wine to be had!
At Cannon Logistics, we love good food and transporting produce from regional Queensland to Brisbane is our specialty. Here are a few things we picked out as must-do’s at this year’s Ekka:
The Woolworth Fresh Food Pavilion
The ultimate foodie’s dream – you can try and taste delicious goodies from all over Queensland. There are more than 60 food & drink stalls here. Browse the fresh food market where you can meet Queensland’s own growers and farmers. There will also be seven hands-on cooking classes each day (reserve your seat at the check-in desk in the pavilion), where a chef will demonstrate how to make some delicious meals from the very ingredients on display at the Pavilion.
Ekka Super Food Sunday
Designated outlets around the show grounds will be offering 2 for 1 of your favourite food items on the last day of the event, Sunday 18 August. Ticket entry will also be reduced by 10% online.
The Royal Queensland Steakhouse
Where you can try the nation’s finest steak, lamb, wines and cheese in one location. The award-winning products are the main attractions of the menu. They are sourced directly from the RNA’s prestigious Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show (RQFWS) competition.
Furphy Plaza Bar
A warm, sunny day in August (while it’s winter) can get hot! After a long day strolling around the event and checking out the food, drop by to the Furphy Bar for a refreshing drink.
Gourmet Plaza
You can’t visit the Ekka without dropping by the Gourmet Plaza! With plenty of seating and restaurant-quality dining options with cuisine from all over the world, it’s perfect for lunch or dinner.
Ekka Fireworks
Fireworks runs from 6 to 8 pm every day in the main arena.
